Wendy’s Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger is Finally Back

Wendy’s Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger is Finally Back

Let's hope the pretzel bacon cheeseburger is back for good!

Stars, stripes, and pretzels forever! Wendy’s is giving the gift of the pretzels and bacon for our nation’s birthday. Starting Fourth of July weekend, Wendy’s will be bringing back a limited-time menu item, the pretzel bacon cheeseburger. The burger, which is sandwiched between two pretzel dough buns, is rumored to be back for good, but Wendy’s has not confirmed this yet.

The popular pretzel burger has been off the menu for six months, and comes back in its familiar form—with Cheddar cheese, smoked bacon, and honey mustard sauce. The burger is $4.99 in its newest incarnation, about 30 cents more than last year. Last year it was a hot-selling item, too, when over 50 million pretzel bacon cheeseburgers were sold.

"Consumers made it clear that we couldn't say goodbye to pretzel forever," said Wendy's chief marketing officer Craig Bahner in a statement.

Wendy’s New Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger

A week ago, I read news announcing the release of Wendy’s premium burger which is served on a toasted pretzel bun. I love pretzel buns. I had read a few months ago that Wendy’s would be releasing a pretzel bun burger so as soon as I saw that it was now available, I headed to my local Wendy’s.

The cheeseburger with a single patty is slightly under $5.00. At first, I was a little taken aback about the price, but then when I got home and opened my burger, I could understand it. Not only is the burger served on a toasted pretzel bun, but the inside has bacon, spring greens (instead of iceberg lettuce), Wendy’s famous smokey honey mustard sauce, and fresh onions, tomatoes.

The bun itself was great. It managed to be sturdy enough to hold all the ingredients in and also be soft and fluffy. It had the taste of a soft pretzel, but in a bread roll form. I was tempted just to eat the bun by itself, even though the inside filling was pretty good too, especially with the fresh vegetables and honey mustard.

I’ve actually never been a big Wendy’s cheeseburger person. I love their chicken sandwiches, the chili, fries, Frosty’s, chicken nuggets, but have never particularly cared for their cheeseburger. So I was originally hoping the pretzel bun was being offered with their chicken sandwiches. However, I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed this burger and am happy to see Wendy’s offering a solid pretzel bun.

I ate one of these sandwiches a few days ago, I will not be buying another. The hamburger, cheese and vegetables were acceptable. I asked for the sauce on the side, that did not happen. The main problem , for me, was the bun. It was tasteless and did not remotely resemble pretzel buns I have eaten at higher level restaurants. I was very disappointed over all. A bad bun bun pretty much ruins what should be a ver good sandwich. This product was not even close. JMHO.

So sorry to hear you had a bad experience. I loved my bun! You should complain to Wendy’s customer service so that they change it!

I like pretzel rolls as well and although I’m not big on Wendy’s or burgers for that matter, that one actually looks good. Sonic has their pretzel dogs out but I haven’t tried them yet. This pretzel bun craze seems to be sticking around a bit and I hope more companies integrate it.

I love this pretzel bun craze. =)

I went to the Wendy’s at the bert kouns location and it was discusting my burger tasted old my sauce was hot the whole burger tasted as if it was reheated from earlier my bun was dry this is the second time this has happened to me at this location around 6 in the evening the
Darked skinned manager wih braids acted like she didn’t wanna give me my money back and her employees that made the burger were laughing about it they showed poor customer service that pretzel burger was nasty and we got. it through drive thru

That’s too bad. You might want to contact Wendy’s customer service. I’ve seen them respond on twitter and I’m sure there is an email where you can complain about your experience. I’ve always had good experiences at my local one, but I know that it’s hard to keep consistent quality at every single franchise.

For those of you complaining, IT IS A FAST FOOD RESTARAUNT. you can’t expect gormet from Wendy’s. Don’t be picky if you eat out.

Wendy’s New Pub Burger Features Beer Cheese Sauce And A Pretzel Bun

Finally, some good news: Wendy’s is introducing a new menu item that elevates the fast-food burger to another level. Inspired by hearty gastropub fare, Wendy’s Pretzel Bacon Pub Cheeseburger features a soft pretzel bun, fresh beef patty, Muenster cheese, bacon, fried onions, pickles, smoky honey mustard and warm beer cheese sauce. You can order it as a single, double or even triple burger.

This isn’t the first time that Wendy’s has tempted us with a pretzel bun. In 2013, Wendy’s was one of the first fast-food chains to make pretzel buns a trend, but the buns only enjoyed a brief time on the menu. After a six-month rollout, the pretzel bun went into retirement.

Fans caused an uproar, asking for the pretzel bun to return to the menu, so Wendy’s brought back the much-beloved bun … and then retired it once again.

Wendy’s Twitter account is famous for its sassiness, and its response to fans’ demands for the pretzel bun cheeseburger was predictably coy. In a tweet from last year, the brand teased that the product would come back “maybe one day, you never know.”

Now, the day has finally arrived! The pretzel bun burger is back and better than ever, revamped with crispy onion strings and warm beer cheese, proving that good things really do come to those who wait.

The new “Made to Crave” menu addition is available for $5.69. If you order Wendy’s from Postmates between Friday, Sept. 4 and Monday, Sept. 7, you can get a free Pretzel Bacon Pub Cheeseburger with a $15 purchase. Just use the code PRETZEL when you check out.

If you prefer white meat, you can also swap the beef in the Pretzel Bacon Pub Cheeseburger for a chicken filet for $6.19. Get it grilled, fried or with the iconic Wendy’s Spicy Chicken breast.

Make sure you try it while you can, as we know from experience that these pretzel buns don’t last long on the menu!

Chart-topping nutritional values

Richards says that the nutritional red flags are many but adds that "the two that stand out most to me are the fat and sodium. The American Heart Association recommends not consuming more than 2,300 milligrams of sodium a day to protect against hypertension and heart disease. This burger contributes 1,940 milligrams of sodium by itself, not counting the high sodium fries that will likely be consumed alongside it." In other words, a Pretzel Bacon Pub Triple will help you blow right past your daily limit for sodium. The fat cont is also out of control.

Explaining the issue further, Richards goes on to say, "The daily recommended intake of fat is set at 30-40 percent of your calories, which equates to around 44-77 grams a day. This Wendy's burger packs in 109 grams of fat, 45 grams of which come from unhealthy saturated fat and 5 grams of trans fat. Put these two facts together and you have a single burger that raises one's risk for nearly every chronic disease including hypertension, heart disease, and obesity."

So will one burger treat cause long-lasting harm? We can't definitively say where the line is on individual indulgence. Your doctor or nutritionist is the best source of advice. We can confidently say you should NOT eat this meal regularly, though, as it doesn't really fit into any healthy diet. Even if you love Wendy's, you might want to pass on this one.

Wendy's is known for its bacon offerings, and the Baconator is a classic. But that doesn't mean it's doing your waistline any favors! Here, a half-pound of beef is topped with American cheese and not one, but six pieces of Applewood smoked bacon, all which is slathered in ketchup and mayo. There is such a thing as too much bacon, and this burger is proof.

Review: Wendy's - Pretzel Bacon Pub Cheeseburger

While Wendy's has put out a pretzel bun before, they're claiming this new pretzel bun is their "softest, signature, best-tasting pretzel bun." It was indeed soft, dense, and chewy so that it felt like a pretzel, but didn't taste much like a pretzel without that hallmark lye (or baking soda) dip flavor. Still, there's an enjoyable novelty in the texture.

The beer cheese sauce was quite mild and any tangy or bitter beer notes were largely lost dueling it out with the other components of the burger. Joined by a similarly mild slice of Muenster cheese, the two mostly provided a creamy base.

Interestingly, the pickles were also on the weak end of the flavor spectrum. They were mostly good for a watery crunch but did manage to eke out a few sour notes.

The bacon was solid as ever with a nice crispiness and smoky flavor. The onions were good for a bit of crunch as well.

The beef patty seemed loosely formed with a decently coarse grind and a fair amount of moisture.

The honey mustard played in with just a touch of sweetness and tang that served to accent the salty, smoky, and savory notes.

Taken altogether, Wendy's Pretzel Bacon Pub Cheeseburger is perfectly presentable and enjoyable with its balance of interestingly low-key flavors, but a punchier pretzel bun and/or beer cheese would probably fit the "pub" designation better.

You Can Get The New Wendy's Bourbon Bacon Cheeseburger For Free Right Now

Although it may seem like chicken sandwiches have taken over the fast-food scene in recent years, let us remember the true supreme of fast food: the hamburger. Wendy's is spotlighting the classic food and released a brand new Bourbon Bacon Cheeseburger and you can score a deal on it right now.

Wendy's new burger is made with a quarter-pound of fresh beef topped with applewood smoked bacon, American cheese, crispy onions, sweet and smoky bourbon bacon sauce all on a toasted bun. Starting today you can score one for free when you order Wendy's through Postmates and spend at least $15. The offer is valid through March 9 and you can use the code BOURBON when you order through the app to claim it.

The new burger debuted as part of Wendy's National Burger Month celebrations and was added to the Made to Crave lineup. The Bourbon Bacon Cheeseburger joins the Pretzel Bacon Pub Cheeseburger, Big Bacon Classic Cheeseburger, Jalapeño Popper Chicken Sandwich, and Pretzel Bacon Pub Chicken Sandwich on the Made to Crave menu.

According to Market Watch, the new menu item comes as a surprise due to the virality of the fast-food "Chicken Wars" that have been going on since Popeyes released their spicy chicken sandwich in the fall of 2019. Wendy's chief marketing officer Carl Loredo told Market Watch that the release is all about Wendy's staying true to itself.

"Following the success of our Pretzel Bacon Pub Cheeseburger and Jalapeno Popper Chicken Sandwiches on the Made to Crave platform, we wanted to go back to our roots," he said.

This burger has three beef patties, plus cheese sauce, bacon, crispy fried onions, and more cheese, all on a pretzel bun. Talk about a monster sandwich.

"This is actually the highest calorie burger on the Wendy's menu, and the calories are super high, close to the amount of calories you need in a day," says Schapiro. Plus, it's very high in fat, at 106 grams. The saturated fat is more than double the amount you should eat in a whole day, she adds.

Wendy’s ‘new’ Pretzel Bacon Pub Cheeseburger with beer cheese marks return of pretzel buns

A quarter-pound of beef, topped with Muenster cheese, three strips of Applewood smoked bacon, smoky honey mustard, warm beer cheese sauce, crispy fried onions and pickles are between a soft pretzel bun.

“Like we did with Spicy Nuggets, we’ve been watching and listening as customers have been craving for us to bring Pretzel back,” said Carl Loredo, Wendy’s chief marketing officer, in a news release. “We married the fervor for our former pretzel bun with the increased love for gastropub-inspired flavors and created a cheeseburger that is, in a word, unforgettable.”

In a blog post, Wendy’s said it went through 18 different revisions of the beer cheese sauce to “get that perfect amount of bitterness that compliments the other sweet and savory ingredients of the sandwich” and screened more than 10 beers.

For Labor Day weekend — Sept. 4 through Sept. 7 — try the burger for free with any Wendy’s delivery purchase more $15 exclusively on Postmates with the code PRETZEL.

For those craving fried chicken over beef, Wendy’s says you can swap the beef for a Homestyle filet with the Pretzel Bacon Pub Chicken Sandwich.

In July, the chain launched the Wendy’s Rewards loyalty program where members can cash in points earned on purchases for free food including free nuggets, a Frosty, a burger, salads and other items.
